How to Download YouTube Thumbnails

Downloading a YouTube thumbnail takes just a few seconds. This guide walks you through the process on desktop and mobile, with tips for getting the highest available quality.

On desktop

1. Open the YouTube video you want a thumbnail from and copy its URL from the address bar.
2. Go to the SnapThumb homepage and paste the URL into the input field.
3. Click Get Thumbnails and wait for all variants to load.
4. Review the "Best Available Thumbnail" card at the top, or browse the grid for other sizes.
5. Click Download on your preferred variant. If the browser blocks the download, the image will open in a new tab — right-click and choose "Save Image As".

On mobile

1. In the YouTube app, open the video and tap Share, then Copy link.
2. Open SnapThumb in your mobile browser and paste the link.
3. Tap Get Thumbnails and choose a size.
4. Tap Download or Open full size, then save the image using your browser's save option.

Using a video ID directly

Every YouTube video has an 11-character ID (letters, numbers, underscores, and hyphens). You can paste just the ID instead of a full URL — for example, dQw4w9WgXcQ.

Getting the highest quality

Copying the direct URL

If you need the image URL for a CMS, presentation, or HTML embed, click Copy URL on any available variant. The URL points directly to YouTube's CDN.
